In a bid to adapt to the ever-evolving technological landscape, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is set to conduct its first Computer-Based Test (CBT) mock examination for prospective candidates of the West African Senior Secondary School Examination (WASSCE). The free mock exam is scheduled to take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 23 and 24, 2024, as announced by Moyosola Adesina, the Acting Head of the Public Affairs Department at WAEC.

The mock exam is a preparatory step for candidates ahead of the first series of the actual computer-based WASSCE, which is slated to commence nationwide on Wednesday, January 31, specifically for private candidates.

Candidates participating in the mock examination are required to log on to the dedicated portal at mockcbt.waec.org.ng using their phones or personal computers. The portal will be accessible throughout the two days, allowing candidates the flexibility to choose a convenient time for their examination. In case of technical issues or unsuccessful attempts, candidates will be permitted to access the mock examination page for a second try.

Upon completion of the registration process, candidates will receive information containing their login details through their registered email addresses and phone numbers. To further aid candidates in navigating the CBT model, a tutorial video demonstrating the use of the examination portal will be made available on all WAEC social media platforms.

WAEC emphasized that the Computer-Based Testing model for the 2024 examination is exclusively designed for private candidates and will not be applicable to general school candidates, as reported by PUNCH Online.

As the educational landscape continues to embrace technological advancements, WAEC’s move towards a computer-based testing approach signifies a commitment to providing a modern and efficient examination experience for students. The mock exam serves as a valuable opportunity for candidates to familiarize themselves with the CBT system and alleviate any potential concerns before the actual examination period begins.
