Chinedu Ogah Foundation Pays N16 Million for Indigent Students’ Exam Registration in Ebonyi
|In a commendable display of philanthropy, the Chinedu Ogah Foundation, a non-governmental organization, has contributed significantly to the education sector by paying over sixteen million naira for the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) and Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration fees for one thousand and seven indigent candidates in public and private schools across Ebonyi State.
The donation was officially confirmed by the Ebonyi State Controller of WAEC, Mrs. Gloria Mgbike, and the State Coordinator of JAMB, Mrs. Doris Enoch, during a ceremony at Girls High School, Agubia, in the Ikwo local government area of the state. The foundation’s founder, Rt. Hon. Chinedu Ogah, personally distributed checks to the two examination bodies.
Mrs. Mgbike expressed gratitude for the initiative, revealing that over N13 million was received for the registration of 507 WAEC candidates. Mrs. Enoch also acknowledged the foundation’s contribution, stating that N3.8 million was paid for the registration of 500 JAMB candidates.
Both education officials praised Hon. Chinedu Ogah for his generosity and encouraged the benefiting students to take advantage of the opportunity by studying hard and excelling in their exams.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Reformatory Institutions, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, cautioned school principals against collecting additional fees from the state government for the benefiting students. He emphasized that any attempt to do so would result in arrest and prosecution according to the law.
Hon. Ogah explained the decision to issue checks directly to the examination bodies, citing a previous issue of fund mismanagement when cash was given to students. This year marks the 15th consecutive year that he has been sponsoring WAEC fees for students in his constituency.
In addition to the exam registration fees, Hon. Chinedu Ogah issued checks for N454,800 and N254,000 as miscellaneous fees for public and private schools, respectively. He also awarded N100,000 each to law graduates from his constituents and refunded payments for WAEC and JAMB made by some of the beneficiaries.
Governor Nwifuru commended Hon. Ogah for alleviating pressure on the education system and urged school principals to ensure the successful grooming of students to achieve the ultimate aim of education in their lives.
